|An Index Page is referred to the front page, web server directory index, or main web page of a website of a group, company, organisation, or individual.|
If there is no index directory added to your public_html directory, it will display your files and folders of the said directory. By managing your Indexes this will allow you to customise the way your directory will be viewed on the web.
Here are the steps on how you can manage your index page:
Step 1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.
Step 2. Click Indexes under the Advanced panel.
Step 3. To navigate through the desired folder, click the folder icon you wish to modify to check other directories under it.
Click Up One Level link if you wish to go one level up from the current folder or click a directory’s name.
Step 4. Choose on of the following options:
- Default System Setting — cPanel uses the default settings configured by the server.
- No Indexing — Server does not display the directory list and instead shows that a forbidden page.
- Standard Indexing — Server displays the list of the directory’s contents as filenames only.
- Fancy Indexing — Server displays the list of the directory’s contents with its file names and additional information, such as file size and time last modified.
Step 5. Click Save.
