How to map your Vodien registered domain with Squarespace?

If you are currently using Squarespace for your website and wants to use your domain name with it, you need to connect your domain name with Squarespace DNS settings. Follow the instructions below on how to map your registered Vodien domain with Squarespace.

(Note: Domain names and DNS records in the images below are only examples.)

Add domain name in Squarespace

Step 1. Log in to your Squarespace account.

Step 2. Click Settings.

Step 3. Click Domains.

Step 4. Select “USE A DOMAIN I OWN”.

Step 5. From the Domain Provider, select “Other” and click “CONNECT DOMAIN”.

Step 6. Enter the domain name and click “CONTINUE”.

Step 6. Click “CONNECT FROM PROVIDER”.

Step 7. When prompt with “CONNECTING IN PROGRESS”, click “OKAY”.

Step 8. Take note of the DNS settings.

 

Edit and Add DNS Settings

You are required to add 2 CNAME records and 4 A records for the domain name.

Scenario 1: Use Account Manager if the domain name is registered with Vodien and is using Vodien’s name servers.

Scenario 2. Use Hosting cPanel Zone Editor

  • if the domain name is registered with another registrar and is using Vodien for Hosting
  • if the domain name is both registered and hosted with Vodien

 

Add and Edit CNAME record – Account Manager

Step 1. Log in to your Account Manager.

Step 2. Click ‘Domains’.

Step 3. Choose the domain that you wish to add the DNS Record.

Step 4.  Locate External Editor DNS and click “Manage DNS”.

To add DNS record, scroll down to the bottom. Click the drop-down arrow, select CNAME and click “Add” button.

Step 5: Enter the following data:

  • Valid zone name – alphanumeric.domain.com (replace alphanumeric with the alphanumeric information given by Squarespace and domain.com with your actual domain name)
  • Record – Fully qualified domain name – verify.squarespace.com

Step 6. Click “Update” button.

Step 7. Still in the DNS Editor page, locate the www and edit the “Fully qualified domain name” field replacing it with ext-cust.squarespace.com.

Edit and Add A record – Account Manager

Step 8. From the current A record, replace the default A record to the first one provided by Squarespace.

Step 9. Add new A records. Select the record type “A” and enter the following details:

  • Valid zone name – yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with the actual domain name)
  • Record – IPv4 address provided by Squarespace

Step 10. There should be 3 additional A records.

Step 11. Click “Update” button.

Add and Edit CNAME record – Hosting cPanel

Step 1. Log in to the cPanel.

Step 2. Click on Zone Editor under Domains panel.

Step 3. If you have more than one domain name, look for the domain name from the list. Click on “Manage” with the wrench icon.

Step 4. Click “+  Add Record” or the drop-down arrow next to it and select CNAME.

Step 5.  Enter the following data:

  • Valid zone name – alphanumeric.yourdomain.com (replace alphanumeric with the alphanumeric information given by Squarespace and yourdomain.com with your actual domain name)
  • Record – Fully qualified domain name – verify.squarespace.com

Step 6. Click “Add Record”.

Step 7. Still in the Zone Editor page, locate the www.yourdomain.com and edit the CNAME.

 

Step 8. Replace the existing “Fully qualified domain name field” with ext-cust.squarespace.com.

Step 9. Click “Save Record”.

Edit and Add A record – Hosting cPanel

Step 10. Locate the current A record of your domain name and click Edit.

Step 11. Replace the default IP address to the IP address provided by Squarespace and click “Save Record”.

Step 11. Add new A records and enter the following data:

  • Valid zone name – yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name)
  • Record – IPv4 address provided by Squarespace

Step 12. Click “Add Record”. There should be 3 additional A records.

Once you access your domain name in a browser, this should be mapped to the website you have created with Squarespace and DNS settings should all be correct.
