How to Set up Your Email Account on Android

Android phones has their default email application where you can start sending and receiving emails. This article will help you set up your email account on your Android phone.

If you’re having troubles with your current email setup, you can click this link to edit your email server settings. 

The steps in this guide reflects that of updated versions of Android, Android 9 and 10. 

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Users & Accounts or Accounts.
3. Choose Add an account. Tap on Email.
4. Enter email address and password. Choose Manual Setup.
5. Choose either IMAP or POP.
6. Under the Account setup screen, fill out information: 

UsernameThe email address you are setting up. 
PasswordThe password for the email account you are setting up.
Servermail.yourdomain.com

Security typeSSL or None

7. Click Next. Then fill out the SMTP Server:

8. Click Next.
9. For Sync frequency and other settings, you may customise or keep it as it is.
10. Tap Next to save.

You can go back to your Home screen and go to your Email app and wait for all your email message to download.

Edit Settings

If there are changes done for your email account, like your password or mail server settings are changed, here are the settings:

1. Go to your Email app.
2. Tap the 3 dots on the top-right and choose Settings.
3. Tap your email address under Accounts.
4. Under Advanced Settings, tap Incoming or Outgoing settings, and you can do the following changes for: 

  • Server 
  • Port 
  • Security type 

Same changes will be done for the Outgoing settings. 

5. Click Done.

Once this is all good, go back to your Email app and check your emails coming in.
