How to Validate SSL Certificate

The validation process will depend on the SSL type you’ve purchased. The process will require you to submit documents supporting your business is real and you’re the legitimate and legal owner of your website.

Here are the different SSL types that you can purchase with Vodien:

Standard SSL

A Domain Validated (DV) SSL Certificate is the most basic one. This requires the least verification process. Certificate Authority (CA) verifies if you won the domain which you’ve requested the certificate. This is best for personal blogs, etc.

Domain Control Validation

To get this, you will need to create a valid email address with your domain name. The verification process through email is to ensure that you, as the requestor, has admin rights on the domain name. The approval of your certificate will be sent to the following email address:

  • admin@yourdomain.com
  • administrator@yourdomain.com
  • webmaster@yourdomain.com
  • postmaster@yourdomain.com
  • hostmaster@yourdomain.com
Note: There are no alternatives for the email address. However, you can use other email accounts as long as it is visible on WHOIS record for your domain.

Wildcard SSL

Organisation Validation (OV) Certificate requires you to prove that your organisation is a legal entity. This process is a log more detailed than the Standard SSL. It may take a few days to validate the certificate which is why OV Certificates provide a better authentication.

Here are the requirements needed:

1. Verify Identity and Address
This requirement will depend if you’re applying as an organisation, or if you’re applying as an individual.

Applying an organisation

Corporations, government agencies, registered business entities, etc. Here’s how to verify your identity and address:

  • Government agency in the jurisdiction of the applicant’s legal creation, existence, or recognition.
  • Third-party database that is periodically updated and considered a Reliable Data Source. This includes:

If the information above, only verifies your identity. We will further verify by:

  • Articles of Incorporation (with address)
  • Government Issued Business License (with address)
  • Copy of a recent company bank statement (you may blacken out the Account Number)
  • Copy of a recent company phone bill
  • Copy of a recent major utility bill of the company (i.e. power bill, water bill, etc.) or current lease agreement for the company
Note: “Recent documents” must be dated within the last 6 months.
Applying as an individual

Here’s how we can verify your identity and address:

a. Copy of a valid driver’s license or passport
b. Copy of a recent major utility bill (i.e. power bill, water bill, etc.) or bank statement

Note: If the Driver’s License and Passport are not listing any address details or those details do not match the account, we need A and 2 documents from B.

2. Domain Control Validation
3. Callbacks to a verified telephone number
This process is to verify your (applicant’s) identity. The telephone number must be associated with the organisation in your validation documents. If the callback is successful, your certificate is issued and you will be notified through email once it’s available

Premium + EV SSL
