Edit Mail Server Settings on Mobile Devices

You may want to update your mail server settings especially if the host names have been changed from your servers. Learn how to edit mail server settings on your mobile devices:

Note: This article assumes that your domain name has an MX record mail.domain.com (replace domain.com with your actual domain name). Otherwise, use your MX record or check with your mail hosting provider what your mail servers are.

iPhone, iPad and apple mobile devices

Step 1. Go to Settings, Mail, Accounts.

Step 2. Select the email address.

Step 3. Tap Account.

Step 4. Look for Outgoing Mail Server and tap SMTP.

Step 5. Tap the Primary Server.

Step 6.  Update the ‘Host Name‘ for the Outgoing Mail Server and modify the following:

  • SL – Turn on Use SSL and change the port number to ‘465′ or ‘587‘.
  • Non-SSL – Turn off Use SSL and change the port number to ‘25‘.

Step 7. Tap Done.

Step 8.  Update the ‘Host Name‘ for the Incoming Mail Server and tap ‘Advanced‘.

Step 9. Modify the SSL and port number.

  • SSL –Turn on Use SSL and change the port number ‘993‘ for IMAP and ‘995‘ for POP3.
  • Non-SSL –Turn off Use SSL and change the port number ‘143‘ for IMAP and ‘110‘ for POP3.

Step 10. Tap Done.

Step 1. Open your Email application.

Step 2. Tap MORE located at the top right.

Step 3. Select Settings.

Step 4. Tap on the email account.

Step 5. Scroll down and tap Server settings under Advanced settings.

Step 6. Change the IMAP server to the new hostname and modify the following:

  • SSL –Under Security type, select SSL and change the port number ‘993‘ for IMAP and ‘995‘ for POP3.
  • Non-SSL –Under Security type, select None and change the port number ‘143‘ for IMAP and ‘110‘ for POP3.

Step 7. Scroll down. Change the Outgoing server to the new hostname and modify the following:

  • SSL –Under Security type, select SSL and change the port number ‘465‘ or  ‘587‘.
  • Non-SSL –Under Security type, select None and change the port number ‘25‘.

Step 7. Tap DONE.
