How to Rename a MySQL Database Name

Renaming database usually happens when you want to change database configurations, or you have unwanted database access from previous or old users. It can be done anytime via cPanel.

Note: We recommend to backup your database first before renaming it. If you wish to perform a backup, you can either go through exporting database via phpMyAdmin or download the backup database via Jetbackup. If you are done, you can proceed with the steps below.

Here are the steps on how to rename a database name:

Step 1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.
Step 2. Click MySQL® Databases under Databases panel.

Step 3. Scroll down to Current Database and click Rename.

Step 4. Enter the new database name and click on Proceed to save.

Once this is done, you can then see your new database name under Current Users:
